History |
The history curriculum aims to help pupils gain a clear knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Pupils are encouraged to understand historical concepts, ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Through writing, art, drama, role play and other activities pupils will learn about significant aspects of both Britain and the wider world considering; the history of Britain as a chronological narrative, the nature of ancient civilisations and the expansion and dissolution of empires.
In Key stage 1 pupils will develop an awareness of the past, using a wide historical vocabulary, through stories and examining significant people and events.
In Key Stage 2 pupils will continue to develop a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history. They will use historical terms, address and devise questions and use a range of sources to examine how our knowledge of the past is constructed.
Local history will be taught in most year groups through specific studies or as part of their topics. Pupils will have opportunities to take part in visits and workshops that will enhance their understanding and enjoyment of topics. |
